When we stood at the entrance to the pour-over area, there were no other customers inside. I greeted them in English and waited to be seated, but since the two baristas didn’t hear me clearly, I repeated it in Mandarin. At this moment, one of the baristas rolled her eyes at me, kept a poker face and never made any further eye contact or verbal communication with us, even when we said ‘thank you’. What was most concerning was that, when she wasn’t serving customers, she was constantly on her phone in the corner. Even when new customers arrived, she didn’t notice until her colleague had to remind her. This was highly unprofessional.

Her colleague, fortunately, served us throughout the entire process—from helping us order to brewing and explaining the coffee—with great patience and care. We were very satisfied with the coffee itself. Overall, the coffee experience at Mameya was pleasant, but it’s a real pity that this particular barista negatively impacted the brand’s otherwise excellent reputation.
