We decided to give this place a go as we've been on the lookout for another omelette rice place to top our visit to Cat's eye in Wanchai. There were many options on the Tamago menu such that besides omelette rices they also had baked rices and various egg-based starters. The omelette rices also had a lot of variety that deviated from tradition such as hamburg steak omelette rice, katsu omelette rice, omelette rice with okonomiyaki sauce. For a starter we ordered the Morihachi tamago deep fried eggs - which were essentially egg yolk within a deep fried tofu skin - didn't taste like anything on its own to be honest but the accompanying sauce made it more flavorful. Next we ordered the hamburg steak omelette rice and a seafood baked rice with half demi glace sauce and half wasabi-cream sauce.
The hamburg steak tasted like a polish meatball or a pork sausage, but the egg omelette, though firm, was still soft and fluffy. The demi glace sauce was a bit too sweet and deviates from the more authentic offerings. The baked rice was somewhat disappointing because it wasn't exactly packed with seafood (2 shrimp, 2 scallop, 2 squid rings) and looked smaller than depicted on the menu. Think something went wrong with the wasabi seasoning because the demi glace sauce ended up being very pungent with wasabi instead of the cream sauce. It was an interesting flavor but overpowering at times. Despite the few flaws, it was a decent meal and does the job of satisfying an omelette rice craving.
