At 3pm on a weekday, this place is almost at capacity, with only one or two tables spare. It seems like a really popular option for locals in the area, as everyone knew what they wanted and ordered as they walked in or as soon as they sat down without looking at the menu. There is only on Chinese menu. The place is small and the tables are close together, so you are really expected to just eat and leave.I order the Shanghai wonton noodle, which is distinctly different to a Cantonese-style wonton

At 3pm on a weekday, this place is almost at capacity, with only one or two tables spare. It seems like a really popular option for locals in the area, as everyone knew what they wanted and ordered as they walked in or as soon as they sat down without looking at the menu. There is only on Chinese menu. The place is small and the tables are close together, so you are really expected to just eat and leave.

I order the Shanghai wonton noodle, which is distinctly different to a Cantonese-style wonton noodle. The lady behind the counter is wrapping dumplings and scooping up filling from a huge plate of minced meat and vegetables, and I know that these dumplings are super fresh.

The bowl of noodles arrive and it is a hearty portion of fine white wheat noodles, four big wontons and a scoop of preserved salty vegetable in a milky broth. The noodles are soft and silky, but is a generic, manufactured noodle. The wontons are tasty, and you can clearly see the large bits of fatty minced meat and roughly cut bak-choy in the filling. Curiously, the vinegar available at the table is the red kind and not the dark Zhenjiang vinegar that is typically used with northern style dumplings. The soup does not have much taste and is even perhaps a little watery, so it relies heavily on the salted vegetable and condiments like chilli oil.

The restaurant has a bit of a bleach or cleaning liquid smell, and that kind of affected the flavour of everything I ate. That said, this is a super cheap place to have some basic Shanghainese to fill your belly. A real neighborhood joint for a quick feed, which was exactly what I came here for.
