As part of my trips to Macau, I try my best to frequent different restaurants around the area. Staying at the Hard Rock Cafe Hotel this time around, i decided to check out El Pinball Mexican Restaurant located in the Soho section on the second floor in the City Of Dreams. As someone who grew up in Texas and California, I have had countless meals from great Mexican restaurants and unfortunately, El Pinball was well below par. We ordered a lychee margarita, chicken quesdilla, carnitas burrito and steak fajitas. The chicken quesdilla was actually decent with a cheesy filling but the guacamole was definitely not freshly made and was probably made from some form of instant mix. The burrito was a letdown as the pork had little to no flavor and oddly enough, the burrito included feta cheese which is not typically included in a traditional burrito and was not wrapped (sort of like a deconstructed burrito lol). Steak fajitas was average but it was literally 95% green peppers and onions and 5%. The lychee margarita was pretty good although the tequila used was again below average (for HK$180 a glass i would expect better). All in all, this place would be great for drinks but definitely not worth it in terms of food for the price you pay (Each dish we ordered cost on average HK$140). continue reading

continue reading

EL Pinball, is more like a bar than a regular restaurant which differs a little from other restaurants of Soho at City of Dreams. It was quite spacious and also in an obvious design of American-style bar & restaurant. Talking about Mexican cuisine, burrito, taco and nacho won't miss on the menu, and maybe you would like to try the imported Mexican beer (B/Dos) as well.Truffle Quesadilla $148This is the best and our favorite dish. The perfectly made tortilla which had such an attractive smoky corn flour smell with thin crispy tortilla texture. Inside, it's very rich ingredients as sweet corns, chopped mushroom, vegetables, sliced onions and everything is 'glued' by the sticky, creamy cheese in a savoury truffle style. In the mouth, the warm and cheesy softness was playing a perfect conflicting-game to the harder & crispier tortilla indeed!Taco $158Taco Camarones $158Tacos are differently made to match different fillings, for example, Taco Camarones, was made of pink onion slices and fresh shrimps folded with wheat tortilla, while the beef one is with corn tortilla. Personally, I love beef fillings which was more traditional taste and savoury because of juicy from various vegetables and 'beef-y' flavor; while on the other hand, I was a fan of crispier wheat tortilla which always gives the different experience.Fresh Corn Chips $138Burritos Carnita $128Corn chips with some sour chili slices and chopped spring onion were really a fresh version as its name. Coming to the original taste of chips, it's crispy enough and maintained the right level of its plain flavor, while I was disappointed to the tomato salsa and avocado one, which had too much water and not fresh enough; however the cream cheese was quite good tasting, cheesy and sour to be both fresher and tasty. Compared to the more traditional Carnita, the burrito had more focus on fresher vegetables. It's less rice and beans in salsa, while more olive oil dressed vegetables, using a normal corn tortilla, it was not bad, but a bit normal. continue reading
