You might have already known that Macau has a Soho gourmet zone, but I guess you are still hesitate to give a try when facing to so many choices among Macau's local restaurants and street foods. Well, the new opening Soho in City of Dreams is absolutely qualified enough for a visit even you are so spoiled as a Hong Kong eater. It is spacious, convenient, causal while good served dining, and it offers an international culinary selection in a place which is quite ideal for visitors who are always
This time I visited two restaurants under Shelter Group, Hongjiade Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup & EL Pinball Mexican Restaurant. The Korean one is among other restaurants in Soho, while the Mexcian one is totally on the other side, near McDonald's. Korean Beer $68
Hongjiade, is half-indoor-half-outdoor (still in the huge building of City of Dreams) and it joins all other restaurants of Soho, Macau which gives a 'fake' feeling of gourmet zone here in Soho Hong Kong. Sharp red paried with mild grey, is the young color tone of this more traditional Korean culinary which is featured in Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup. Craving for a bar street feel? They are also offering Korean beer (but don't expect too high ) Hongjiade Soup $198
Cooked with super tender whole chicken in a traditional Korean culinary way, the soup expressed its original taste which was a combination of lighter seasoned, natural sweetened in chicken and ginseng essentials, and the slightly milky & sticky texture of the slow-cooked soup. Fried Chicken $180 Spicy Fried Chicken $180
We tried Korean-style fried chicken in both original and spicy version, and came to an agreement that spicy version was more tasty. In general, I could not differentiate a lot from Korean fried chicken to others; it was fried with a thiner layer of flour; the same crispy, the same 'less-fat' or 'less-oily', the same juiciness and tenderness of chicken. The only difference was the seasoning. It's not Kimchi-spicy but still the Korean spice which combined the right level of sweet, salty and spicy. It was not so firing at the beginning, but you would feel that actually strong enough to impress you and to burn your mouth, if you just keep on having them. And I just had a guess that they even marinated the chicken with the same seasoning sauce before putting it into fried oil, so that the taste could go such deeply and last inside the chicken. Besides, the side-dish potato and the sauce were also so outstanding!!! Soften and warm of deep-fried potato, and I thought it's mayonnaise but actually mustard to reduce greasy feeling of the sauce. Bibimbap $256
To be honest, I was a bit shocked by the price, especially recalling the size of the bowl. The overall taste of this typical Korean mixed rice dish was in a good quality but just seemed more like a Korean tradition food with simple ingredients, but nothing specially worthy to the charge.
