We hadn't come here for a long long time. My lunch partner had recently come for the beef tartare and said it was just perfect so brought me to try it out.Reserved a table for 2 on openrice a few days earlier. Steak Tartare (New Zealand Beef Tenderloin with all the Trimmings & Grilled Sourdough)
It was a bit disappointing as it was just average. The beef was not so tender. There were loads of beef though. It was a bit too sour to me but it was ok, just not absolutely great. Grilled Sourdough was not as good as those crispy trimmings (which tasted like sweet potato slices to me).
Express lunch sets were at different prices with quite a number of choices. Last time we tried the Mussels and steak which were pretty good and decided to encore.
We tried both of their appetisers.

Portion was big. But it was actually quite salty and oily overall. Bacon slices were obviously too salty. There was too much mustard dressing. Apart from these, actually it was ok.

The soup was not so good. It was just a normal soup with not much broccoli or cheese.

Frites House Mussels (Kinkawooka Mussels, Diced Tomato, Garlic, Onion, light cream, Chive, Frites, Sourdough)
The mussels were so fresh and tender last time. This time it seemed that they were not as good and they seemed much smaller than before. The sauce was quite good, not overly salty. The sauce was super great with the Sourdough. The Sourdough should have been served hot because when we ate it after finishing most of the other food it was still warm. It tasted so great after dipping into the sauce. Frites were good although not absolutely great. Thick-cuts and definitely freshly deep-fried. They also served a small bowl of mayo for the Frites.

Steak & Frites (Grilled 8oz USDA 1855 Black Angus Striploin, Frites, Green Salad, Truffle Butter)
On the other hand, the steak was pretty good. It was grilled pretty well with slightly crispy crust and juicy interior. It could have been more tender but it was actually ok. A bit too dry though so better eat them with mustard. It was cooked medium rare as we requested which was quite well cooked. The Truffle Butter was just too little. Green salad was ok while the frites were good too. Tried different sauces for the Frites and ketchup was the best.
We were quite full by then but the dessert was complimentary with no choice.

Apple Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream & Maple Syrup
There was nothing special with the apple cake. It was not so apple at all. The vanilla ice cream was so hard. The maple syrup sucked because the whole plate of dessert didn't need anything else to make it even sweeter.
Service was quite good. One server saw me trying to pour the mustard onto my plate but obviously the mustard was too hard and then he immediately tried to get me a small spoon without asking. It was really appreciated.
Despite some disappointments, the steak with frites was still pretty good which was quite a good value for money at such a price, which should be a reason to come back some time in future.
