My dad is Singaporean, and we cook quite a lot of Singapirean/Malay/Indonesian food at home, so I was looking forward to trying out Old Town, as it would be a hassle-free Singaporean meal, but this was not to be.
The Char Kway Teow was bland and tasteless, requiring a large amount of sambal belacan for flavor, and did not have the wok fried fragance of a good char kway teow. The Nasi Goreng was too damp, and did similarly did not have the wok fried aroma, which made if feel more like home cooking than a restaurant meal. Similarly, additional belacan was required here. The cold barley water was luke-warm at best. Thank God the satay had a decent sauce, as the meat was only marinated with TOO MUCH bicarbonate soda, and black pepper (which is not usually used in satay).
Having said that, the portions were large for a restaurant located in central, staff were courteous and efficient, and decor was nice and neat.
Oly OK if you are not expecting to eat Singaporean food
