After quite some time, I am here in Causeway bay, Haven Street, to hunt for some good bites. As we weren't too hungry and we just wanted to look for a place for some quality chit chat. We have heard of the name Yawn Cafe before but we have never tried it so let's give it a go. The cafe, just like most of other small restaurants in the neighbourhood, has a full big window facing the street for customer to enjoy watching people. There are some special drinks available on the menu, while set dinner
Taro Latte $42
Friend ordered this cup of taro latte which is very smooth and creamy. The latte is surprisingly very purple in colour and the taro taste is very strong. The sweetness is just right, while the latte art is definitely on point as you can see. White chocolate espresso shake $45
It's a mix between white chocolate and coffee. Taking a second thought, basically it is milk and sugar and coffee, isn't it just the same as a cup of normal coffee? Anyway, the taste is pretty similar but the texture is a bit grainier. I have asked for a less sweetened version with less white chocolate and cone again the sweetness was just right. Hot fried potato skillet $75 there are 3 toppings for you to choose for your potato skillets (classic bacon, chili corn carne, mixed mushroom) and I have chosen the chili corn carne one. The chili corn carne taste really reminded me of my Western life. The slight spicy and very meaty beef cubes is mixed with some roasted potato cubes, topped with 2 very runny eggs and shredded cheese.
The flavour is actually very strong and savoury. Since it's quite a heavy dish, you can get bored of its taste easily so make sure you order something else to go with it to give your dining experience a little bit more complexity. Lobster linguine $78
During dinner time, 4 set dinner choices can be chosen. 1 pizza, 1 risotto, and 2 pasta mains. While the cafe ran out of crab meat, we had to order the lobster linguine cooked in light lobster sauce. The pasta has been cooked until very softened already so the word "al dente" cannot be applied to this dish. The lobster flavour from the sauce would not be too powerful, yet some cooked shrimp pieces can be found.
The taste of the pasta is quite flat, therefore, the chilli corn carne skillet was great to enjoy with the pasta.
p.s. do not forget to help yourself with the cheese powder, tabasco, and pepper in the common corner! T-bone steak brownie $68
One of the staples from the cafe. A whole piece of rich and sweet chocolate-y red velvet cake coated with chocolate ganache, served with ice cream and warm chocolate sauce. The very hardened ganache is thick, covering a moist red velvet cake which is actually warmed up and even slightly melted from the heat of the skillet. I particularly liked the melted cake part, while my friend actually liked the rich ganache part. This delicious dessert is indulgently sweet so the big scoop of vanilla ice cream does a good counterbalance to the sugar. Besides, what's not to like with this gimmick heart-shaped brownie steak? The thing I really appreciated would be the temperature of their food because everything is served on a very hot skillet that can really keep the food warm. Comparatively, their desserts outcasted their main courses and drinks are definitely worth a try too!
