This review is for their coffee only.
Firstly, I like this cafe. If you've been to South Korea or Taiwan, you probably noticed many of their cafes have a certain vibe to them. This cafe has a similar vibe. I'm not really sure how to describe it - Hipster? Cute?
So this place is comfortable, and Hong Kong needs more cafes like this. In fact, Hong Kong needs more of anything which has any sort of artistic vibe to it.
The little street it's on (Fashion Walk off Kingston Street) is nice, and has many little restaurants and bars to choose from. It's a nice getaway from the madness of Causeway Bay, and in fact, there are a severe lack of decent bars and cafes in Causeway Bay.
My problem with Elephant Grounds:
The coffee is just OK. The beans are burnt, so it's bitter. I understand why they are doing this (consistent coffee taste) but it makes for a slightly less delicious cup of coffee.
Also, the prices are high. My large latte was HKD 53. That is really expensive for a coffee.
So will I come here again? Yes, because Causeway Bay has no decent cafes. But they need to reduce their prices and should consider using beans which are unburnt.
