So, a couple months ago, I came up with the idea of making a bulgogi roll, with bulgogi and kimchee in it. I thought I was some sort of culinary genius. Yeah, well apparently this is just a thing in Korea, and I'm behind the times. When I saw K-Roll walking by for the first time my eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. I had to go.

Bulgogi K-roll: This is what lured me in. It isn't bulgogi and kimchee, but rather bulgogi and bean sprouts, mainly, all in a seaweed-and-rice roll. Like a sushi roll, but with Korean fillings. I found it bland. Much like the first (English) reviewer, I wished there was soy sauce or something to dip it in. When we asked, all we got was kochujang, which really isn't all that spicy, or all that tasty. B+

Shrimp Kurrito: I wasn't expecting the kurrito, and I wasn't expecting it to be good, but it was. There's sort of one long piece of deep-fried shrimp running through the middle (like you find when you get shrimp tempura). The fillings include lettuce, red cabbage, some crunchy stuff (like spring-roll wrappers?), carrots, and mayonnaise. It wouldn't be too far off to say that it was like fried shrimp + coleslaw. There's also some non-trivial spice in there, which is a definite plus. These ingredients are wrapped in seaweed and rice as though they were a sushi roll, but much bigger. I'll have to say that from the description, you can't tell how delicious it is. I mean, really, you should have one of these, it's amazing. A+

Chicken kurrito: This is very similar to the shrimp version, but I don't think the chicken is fried (it isn't breaded), and it (the chicken) is a little on the overcooked side. Still, these things are so good, it's hard to notice flaws. A

I think this place is really good. I got two kurritos today for $116 (if I remember right), which is totally reasonable. The people working there seemed more than friendly. I highly recommend this.

题外话/补充资料: They say it's takeaway only from 4 to 7, but I was in there today at 6:30 and they were letting people eat in the store and asking whether you wanted it takeaway or not. Beware of coming too late though. I didn't hear what it was the guy in front of me ordered, but they told him they were all out, so they aren't necessarily making more food after 4:00pm.

留意到店子雖小的 K - Roll,職員分工頗為細緻。有兩位站著主理卷物,一位負責維持秩序及傳送飯餐,韓籍店主負責收銀,該有少數職員在後頭的廚房裡工作,因店子除提供卷物外,亦有韓式牛肉飯、豬肉飯、雞肉飯、泡菜餅、石頭飯、炒粉絲及湯麵等熱食供應,對小店來說,負苛不輕,但備餐所需的時間跟快餐店速度相約。

不到一會,我首次約會的殿堂食家 - Ivy (筆名:IVY CWK) 終於現身了,很高興繼 OpenRice 靈蛇添福新春飯聚後,大家首次相約會面。而細心的 Ivy 不單事前選擇了兩處開飯點供我考慮,更代勞購買是日的午餐,認真照顧周到。

Ivy 要了Citron K-tea, 就是柚子茶了;而我則要了 Jujube K-tea,即紅棗茶。韓國的即沖飲品,因為質量與味道均不錯,而且沖製方法簡單,所以一向深受香港人歡迎。

早前在等候的期間,看到職員製作卷物的過程,先放上紫菜,然後米飯、再鋪上豐富的餡料及沙律醬,最後再捲上,光是看也覺美味,於是我決定來一個 Chicken Korritto。

Korritto 體型粗壯肥大,恰似一個加大版的上海的粢飯,有蝦及雞兩款餡料選擇。店方細心的將 Korritto 斜斜地切開,不單易於進食,也方便我和 Ivy 各分一半。

韓國米飯黏軟度適中,雞塊經炸後切成條狀,被牛油果、生菜、紅蘿蔔絲及沙律醬重重包圍,面上再黏上了脆卜卜的薄脆。入口先是脆口,繼而是一份蔬果的清新爽脆,跟著又混合了米飯的軟糯,味道清怡,口感多元化,這份 Chicken Korritto 帶出韓國 Fushion 新口味,感覺蠻不錯!

Ivy 早前已品嚐過吞拿魚餡料的 K-Roll ,看來她還是對 K-Roll 的卷物仍念念不忘,還是選了一份 Salad K -Roll。

K - Roll 的紫菜與米飯仍是不錯,中間是爽脆的青瓜、恰似爽朗、率直的 Ivy 。比在韓國吃到的新鮮、味美。

不足一小時的用餐時間,我和 Ivy 一邊聊天,一邊享受 K - Roll 輕怡與清新的卷物,每分每秒也變得珍貴得很,希望下次可有機會再次會面詳談。

這趟在 K - Roll 用餐,讓我認識到小店不一定予人擠迫、混亂的感覺,反而令我很欣賞韓國店主的生意頭腦。儘管是有限的空限,只要在店舖和菜式的設計,以及人力資源的分配和市場定位上,下點功夫和作出相應的配合,顧客可以得到所需,而店子亦受到歡迎,這一套經營模式用在租金昂貴的辦公地點,就充份顯示出韓國店主精明的一面。就以當日為例,顧客源源不絕,不光吸引了本地人的上班一族,還有不少外籍遊客也甚為受落。

對我來說,偶然換上卷物作午餐,感覺也相當新鮮。

Me and my friend went to have lunch at k-roll this saturday at 1pm. It was the peak lunch hour but the place wasn't crowded so we dined-in instead of getting a take-out. As a Korean born and raised in Korea I have years of experience in eating at a boonshikjip like this and I vouch for k-roll's gimbap quality. Setting that aside, what really surprised me and what pushed me to write a review is their 'korritto's. These Korean ladies came up with their own recipes and took it to another level. Honestly I was skeptical at first. I haven't seen these back in Korea. So I came to this restaurant many many times before for gimbap but never ordered korritto - until today.

I had a chicken korritto and man it blew my mind. I'm absolutely amazed with this korritto thing. I think I'm in love. They should patent their recipe, seriously, or I'm gonna steal it. ..Well okay, I'm not gifted with kitchen skills but I'm sure it's a matter of time before someone else really does it. Good first impression when greeted by the ladies at the counter who were happy to explain what's on the menu. This is particularly helpful if you are new to Korean food and do not understand exactly what Bulgogi or Galbi means. I checked out their website first (http://www.k-roll.com.hk) so It was a bit easier for me. We ordered tuna K-roll, shrimp Korrito and Ddukboggi.

Tuna K-roll comes with tuna, mayonnaise, steamed white rice and other ingredients such as cucumber, lettuce, egg sheet and crab stick all wrapped in dried seaweed. Loved the light and fresh taste of these bite-size rolls.

What was new to me on the menu was "Korrito". I was told this is a Korean version of burrito. It was like a large sized K-roll with slightly different ingredients. I would say this one is a must-try of K-roll. Also very fresh and had the nice texture in it. It has crunchy fried shrimp, lettuce, avocado and various other vegetables all wrapped in dried seaweed with steamed white rice.

To add a bit of spice to our lunch, we also ordered Ddukboggi. It's a braised dish of sliced rice cake, meat, eggs, and spicy seasoning as explained on K-roll's website. It has that spiciness and sweetness mixed into soft rice cake. Would like to try this more often.

It was interesting to know that K-roll serves somewhat lesser known Korean soft drinks besides your everyday Coke, Sprite, etc. We ordered Sunny10 with some K-pop stars' faces on them.

All in all, I was pleasantly surprised with their fresh take on the Korean style takeouts and would like to try others on the menu next time. Not to mention I will be having Korrito again. Perfect for a quick lunch that's fresh and good for your health...

Have you heard of Korean rolls? It's a first for me. This shop opened near my neighborhood a few months ago, and today I finally urged myself to try.Ordered the beef roll as I really have to know how Koreans do this differently than Japanese. First of all, nothing is raw in this. Everything is cooked. However, there was no dipping soy sauce like Japanese rolls. There lies the problem ... I would suppose during the cooking the meats would be seasoned enough, so when you eat it, you can do without any sauces.

I was wrong. The beef was neither seasoned nor juicy, and everything is mildly warm. Seems like just pan-fried beef wrapped with cut vegetables. I expect this would be more exciting if they just stir-fried some teriyaki beef and rolled it up. Am I expecting too much from a $50 takeout?

朋友說上環最近開了不少新食店,聽說都不錯。上次試了Noodlemi,今次決定來這家K-Roll吃吃看。起初只知這店是吃卷物,卻沒想到K,就是Korean。沒關係,反正來了,就試一下吧。店子小小的,裝修很簡潔,大約十個坐位,看來主攻附近寫字樓外賣市場。 下午三時多,店內也有一些客人,有韓國的,也有外國的。老闆娘說得一口流利英語,還在努力的學著廣東話,笑容滿滿的,很親切。說回食物,餐牌很簡單直接,沒有太多選擇。點了牛肉K-Roll跟雞肉Korrito。前者像日式壽司卷,用了韓式牛肉bulgogi,甜甜的,很易入口;後者似手卷,又像wrap,雞肉炸過,脆脆的,配上牛油果、沙律醬及蔬菜,很開胃。份量雖然不算大,卻又很飽肚。朋友說這店是一班喜歡吃、喜歡煮的人開的,所以食物搭配與味道都應該不錯。下次有機會要試試她們其他食品。

連全卷頭尾都有!完全超出我預期的份量!
配料包括:甜雞蛋、青瓜、紅蘿蔔、紫洋蔥碎、蟹柳、吞拿魚、一塊紫蘇葉。色彩繽紛而且材料非常豐富!包得滿滿的!
一點亦不馬虎!紫菜表面掃上一層醬油,添上一份香氣!

食完真是飽到不得了!


Bibimbap 配豆腐 $58
包括:炸豆腐、菜、芽菜、冬菇絲、雞脾菇絲、紅蘿蔔絲、翠玉瓜絲、雞蛋絲,色彩繽紛!而且纖維豐富!
素食者都適合!

炸豆腐並非預期的外脆內滑!
外層淡口兼軟身!內裡的確滑溜!菜帶有麻油味!冬菇絲很惹味!紅蘿蔔絲夠清爽!
最驚喜的是底部有大約 1 吋高的白飯,
另附上紅色的醬汁,味道好像食腸粉的甜醬多一點辣!拌飯後,立即惹味起來!

油潤的粉絲粗身彈牙帶甜味!
份量確實不多!
略嫌太油!食完成嘴油!
