The big Japanese lanterns outside the shop and the whole setting reminded me very much of another ramen shop around the area, Kamitora.
Indeed, other than one or two additions, the menu was essentially the same as Kamitora. In fact, the staff told me that this WAS Kamitora. The brand Kamitora had returned to Japan and this took its place.
I suppressed my urge to order the spicy ramen as I had tried it before at Kamitora. I decided to order the prawn miso/tonkotsu ramen. My friend ordered the original tonkotsu.
不一会拉面便到达:
The ramen came after a short wait. The broth was a bit salty. There was some prawn miso taste but was certainly not as pronounced as those served at Ebina. Perhaps the prawn miso taste was not as obvious because of the pork bone broth.
The Sakura Ebi (small shrimps, very famous in Shizuoka) sprinkled on top the broth increased the aroma somewhat, but was nevertheless quite insufficient to bring it to a really satisfying level.
This significantly reduced my rating for this otherwise decent ramen joint.
The ramen used were thick, curly egg noodles. The quality of the noodles was not bad. The soup hanged on the ramen pretty well. However, I would have preferred a slightly thinner noble. That's just my preference. According to my knowledge, there is no standard ramen used for prawn miso ramen.
The one piece of Char Siu had good umami. Some may find the Char Siu too hard. I believe they used the shoulder part to make the char siu. I prefer the belly part but I don't mind this too much.
I have never seen lettuce in a bowl of ramen before. I found it rather odd but to my surprise, the mismatch was not great.
My friend thought that the taste of his tonkotsu broth was a bit light but he enjoyed the noodles. He thought the ramen was above average.
The gyozas were not bad at all.
原来「鸟华亭」亦属于同一老板开的。鸟华亭主打鸡白汤,我和同事试过两次,大家对鸟华亭都赞不绝口。我相当喜欢鸟华亭。相比之下,一虎则较为逊色,但如在附近,一试无妨。
It turns out that this is run by the same owner of Torihanatei, a chicken broth ramen joint. I have a soft spot for chicken ramen and Torihanatei is most certainly one of my favorites.
I highly recommend Torohanatei. Nevertheless, this is not a bad option if you are around the area.
