I have been to Batard last year for dinner, and it wasn’t this difficult to book back then. And it became a super 预约困难店now.. the most difficult part is they don’t do online bookings, u have to call them at least over 300 times on the particular day they accept bookings. I tried for 200 times and I gave up, then I tried on the second day which was a lot easier to reach someone, and she told me fully booked for Oct already, and she could put me on waitlist for any two days I selected.. so I just

I tried for 200 times and I gave up, then I tried on the second day which was a lot easier to reach someone, and she told me fully booked for Oct already, and she could put me on waitlist for any two days I selected.. so I just randomly picked two days, and I was so lucky that I finally got the seat! (U can try this way for waitlist too if u don’t wanna make those never get through phone calls)

I went for lunch, $500pp for the lunch set, which was really good value..
I liked the beef tartare cannelloni and the Madeleine cakes a lot…

I was thrilled about trying their signature chicken finally, which I didn’t try last time, but I was a little disappointed tbh.
It was not bad, but the chicken breast was not tender enough… a bit dry.. the thighs and wings were great though.. the rice reminds me too much of Hainan chicken rice, maybe is good thing for some ppl… but for me, I would think why don’t I just go for a real Hainan chicken 😂 and the rice wasn’t warm enough..
Given that the reservation is this hard to get, I was expecting more from them..

I couldn’t stop myself from comparing it with the one from Louise. I tried the chicken from Louise not long ago, it was way better… the chicken breast was really tender .. and the rice was so so good.. they got so much more depth in this dish..
I think Batard is just a bit overrated.

Overall, I would say Batard is still a really decent restaurant, but I don’t think the hype is necessary..
I really don’t get this phone call reservation thing.. maybe is all about marketing.. to make it extremely hard to book, so u would want it more 😆🤭
