Overall rating : 7.8/10 Coco Espresso is a new branch of the one in Sheung Wan. This café is welcome by office guys and ladies working around for lunch or simply drop by for a coffee or takeaway. The café can sit 12 people including the bar table and with an extension at the backyard with a couple of more seats. The atmosphere is casual and relaxing. Unlike Barista Jam, the baristas were very friendly even to new customers and checked with me a couple of times for the food I ordered. They were patient to chat with you and it’s not difficult to sense their passion on making coffee.
This café closes at 7pm as the shop will turn to a workshop for classes such as latte art or brewing hand drip coffee.
a) Egg Benedict ($118 for combo) – 7.5/10 A classic dish with poached eggs and spinach, smoked ham, English muffins and garden salad.
b) Tomato Soup (combo) – 7/10 This is a no-cream soup with mere blended tomatoes and without herbs. I little blend for me as well as lack of balance in flavour before I seasoned with salt and pepper.
c) Cold Drip Coffee ($48) – 8/10 There sat a tower of cold drip rack on the bar table. As explained by one of the baristas, they offered both cold drip of single bean and house blend. For a start, I ordered a house blend cold drip. Glad that I had it straight without an ice rock or the flavour of the coffee would further be diluted. The brew was smooth and winery, however, the characteristics of each of the 3 beans (Indonesia, Brazil and Ethiopia) became more subtle, leaving a slight trace of chocolate biscuit and caramel on the palette.
