Valentine's Day and we decided to just have dinner at home. Boyfriend brought cakes! Yay!This year he bought a couple of cakes from the Peninsula Hotel. It was packed in a very sturdy box.The two cakes he bought was the Valentine's day special heart shaped cake ($88, on the left) and a chocolate raspberry cake ($60 on the right).The raspberry chocolate was two layers. The two cakes he bought was the Valentine's day special heart shaped cake ($88, on the left) and a chocolate raspberry cake ($60 on the right).
The raspberry chocolate was two layers. It was very chocolatey with a nice taste of raspberry to balance the bitterness of the dark chocolate. There was a very crisp shortbread cookie on top for decoration. A circle of red chocolate was bound around it and was ver crisp.
The limited Valentine's Day cake was heart shaped. A sponge cake that was filled with a flowing mixed berry coulis that was very sour. I loved it. The glaze was not too gummy and was thin and smooth. Topped with gold leaf which I felt was a bit tacky but oh well.
The cakes were really good and the flavours went well together.
