We visited Morton’s of Chicago to celebrate our first anniversary. As a classy American steakhouse, the atmosphere was relaxing and comfy, tableswere well-decorated and waiters were welcoming. It is a well-known fact that this restaurant offers “tailor-made menu” to diners for their special occasions, like birthday and anniversary celebrations. The first appetizer was a complimentary onion bread. We were all shocked by its size when it was served. It was as big as my head! We were soon attracted by its herbs’ aroma. The crispy crust was covered with herbs and the inside was very soft and full of the scent of onions. We almost finished the whole bread, which was unusual to my boyfriend as he was not a bread lover.

Our second appetizer was Jumbo Lump Crab Cake. It was undoubtedly the best crab cake I have ever had in Hong Kong. Despite of the jumbo size of the cake, what amazed me most was the jumbo slices of the crab flesh in the cake. Unlike other pasty crab cakes, it was not made with mixture of crab meat and ingredients. This crab cake was made with slices of crab meat and it tasted very fresh and had a clear fleshy texture.

For our main dish, of course, we ordered steak. It was lucky that there was a new seasonal menu and the waitress recommended us Dry-Aged USDA Prime Bone-in New York, 18oz if we were looking for a stronger taste of beef meat. We were glad that the steak did not disappoint us. We asked for medium, and the steak offered was pink, juicy, marbled with fat and of a distinctive taste. Though marbled with fat, it was not fatty at all. The taste of meat was much stronger than the non-dry-aged ones. We liked the taste so much that we did not need much mustard to further season it.

For the side dishes, we had Grilled Jumbo Asparagus and Truffle Matchstick Fries. Some people dislike the grassy taste of asparagus, yet, I am a fan of asparagus. The grilled asparagus was much more juicy and tender than I had expected. The vinegar seasoned was a great match with the grilled asparagus; it brought out the sweetness of the vegetables, making a right balance between the grassy and sweet tastes. For the fries, it was indeed named Parmesan & Truffle Matchstick Fries. Yet, my boyfriend was a bit allergic to cheese so we asked them not to add the cheese. As expected, the fries looked as slim as matchsticks. In fact, every potato matchstick was fully fried which tasted crispy. It was served very hot and nothing can beat freshly fried potatoes. However, the scent of truffle was softer than we expected. Yet, truffle was not the focus of the dish, so overall; we were still satisfied with the freshly fried potato matchsticks.

At last, we were treated with a complimentary dessert for the special occasion, it was a jumbo soufflé. Though it was free, it surprised us with it super soft and fluffy texture. Finishing the soufflé, we ended our meal with great satisfaction.
In short, we had a great night celebrating our anniversary at Morton’s of Chicago. Not only were the dishes delicious, the service and atmosphere were satisfactory too. I would highly recommend couples and families to celebrate their special occasions in this cozy steakhouse.
