A few times I walk past Windsor House, I see signs of this new furniture store. Not a top priority for me to visit (though I love Franc Franc but they are more about home accessories). But one day I decided to go up there too look at cushion covers when I spotted they had a restaurant. And it was EMPTY.Empty restaurants usually mean one of two things for me: 1. the food is overpriced and not a regular everyday meal or 2. there is something wrong with the food/staff whatever to make it unappeali
Empty restaurants usually mean one of two things for me: 1. the food is overpriced and not a regular everyday meal or 2. there is something wrong with the food/staff whatever to make it unappealing so no one goes. So, I walked away. But curiosity got the better of me. I should give it a try. Because dear reader, if the food is horrible, I should at lease sacrifice myself for the sake of writing a review about it. Right? Right.
Biting the bullet, I walked in for lunch. It was, as predicted .. empty except for maybe two other people.
The restaurant is located on the 15/F of Windsor House so you need to take the elevators to get there. Then you walk all the way to the back of the furniture store. And like the furniture itself, the restaurant was tastefully designed. Sit by the windows for an awesome view of Victoria Harbor as well! Staff was quick to serve me. Though casual in that they said "Feel free to choose anywhere to sit." I mean ... the place was empty during a lunch hour in Causeway Bay.
Menu is in English and Chinese. They have an all day menu and during lunch hour, I was presented with a lunch menu. Lunch set included a starter, main and coffee or tea. Add $28 for a dessert. Price was under $200. This is what I ended up ordering from. 62C Slow Cooked Egg with Asparagus and Parmesan Cheese. This is the starter I chose. Interesting they tried for some sort of plating though was messy. But then this is not fine dining, so I won't get into it. Basically this was like poached egg on asparagus, topped with Hollandaise sauce and a generous amount of freshly grated Parmesan. Parmesan overdose was a plus. Asparagus was well cooked. Only disappointment was the Hollandaise. Not enough butter and no hint of lemon. It kind of fell flat. I started to worry at that point. Is that why no one comes? Spaghetti with Crab Meat and Lobster Sauce ($148). This was my choice of main. This was much better. The pasta was al dente. It was topped with huge chunks of crab meat and a generous topping of fresh Parmesan gratings. But the sauce? Oh wow .. the sauce was the winner. Rich and creamy with a strong taste of lobster. It was so good, I could have licked my plate. A pleasant surprise. The food was fairly good. The pasta was actually memorable though the starter wasn't that good. I should have chosen something else. It was quiet and peaceful. When I Instagrammed this, my coworker said this was her favorite place in Causeway Bay for the fish and chips and the peace and quiet. Apparently, my coworkers have been keeping this place a secret from me. A number of them said they come here for dessert and coffee after work. They didn't share their foodie finds with me! And I can understand why. It's peaceful and beautiful. The food is fairly good. I can see myself here as a regular as well.
I also want to say .. lunch came like super fast. I think I ordered and received everything on my table in less than 15 minutes.
