Finally got to try out Kitchen M today with a close friend! Since I saw from previous reviews that the restaurant itself is quite small, I wasn't too surprised when I saw the actual size of it. I thought the atmosphere was quite cosy actually Got there at about 6:15 and was politely greeted by a waitress who asked us if we had reserved a table. When we told her we hadn't, she said that the only table available was the one right next to the entrance. We were okay with that but I hadn't expected i

Got there at about 6:15 and was politely greeted by a waitress who asked us if we had reserved a table. When we told her we hadn't, she said that the only table available was the one right next to the entrance. We were okay with that but I hadn't expected it to be so fully booked even on a Thursday night
We ordered one dinner set to share between us (since we're not very big eaters and we wanted to leave some stomach space for Paul Lafayet's! )
The first thing that arrived was the complimentary bread basket The bread was freshly served; firm on the outside, yet warm and tender in the centre!
For starters, we ordered the Beef Carpaccio Although the dish itself looked interesting, the actual taste let it down. Taking a bite of the beef, all I could taste was the salad dressing drizzled over it. No beef taste at all!
Next up was the Onion Soup Although the beef appetiser was disappointing, this soup definitely worked up my appetite again! The taste was strong and perfect along with the bits of bread and onion inside which soaked up all the wonderful flavours of the soup!
Next the main course Pan-seared Salmon with Pumpkin Risotto. The waiter actually brought the wrong main dish to our table at first, but seeing our confused look they realised they had taken down the wrong order and immediately went to make the right one. No big deal though, atleast they politely apologised for it! For me, this was the highlight of the whole meal! When arriving at Kitchen M, I had a craving for baked salmon for a change rather than sashimi. This dish definitely satisfied that craving!
When ordering baked salmon in most restaurants, the flesh is flaky, dry and breaks off into little pieces when you try to cut it. But this one was cooked just right so that the inside was still tender, moist and juicy; not dry at all! Also, the layer of skin was cooked nice and crispy
The pumpkin risotto was also different from many others I've had. Instead of being thick and creamy, this one was rather soupy - but still really good! In my opinion, the soupy-ness makes it even better since you don't get the weighed down feeling from all the cream added in. What I also really loved was the combination of various textures in the whole dish; the crunchiness from the beans, the smoothness of the risotto, the mushiness from the pumpkin and the chewiness of the mushrooms! All brought together by the soupy-base... So good!
Last of all was dessert; Napoleon Have to say that taste-wise this wasn't up to my expectations I'd still give it a thumbs up for its presentation though!
Overall, Kitchen M has left me with quite a good impression and I definitely wouldn't mind coming back again!
