I was hoping to visit this restaurant couple times but it always too packed and didnt accept walk in. Walking pass with an empty stomach today and seeing there were couple unoccupied tables, I immediately took my friend to give it a try. They gave different menu for weekend, the main menu, brunch menu and festive lunch menu. Festive lunch options seem attempting and we were hoping to have some soup warm our bodies up under the cold. We picked their chickpea, mushrooms & truffle soup; mezze manich
They gave different menu for weekend, the main menu, brunch menu and festive lunch menu. Festive lunch options seem attempting and we were hoping to have some soup warm our bodies up under the cold. We picked their chickpea, mushrooms & truffle soup; mezze maniche pasta and braised beef cheek in masala wine as main; plus chocolate & pear cake as dessert.
First came with their house bread serving with a truffle spread. Crispy edges and lightly toasted. Spreading their truffle spread on the golden brown centre. Every bite was delightful. Spread has a strong truffle flavour which I absolutely stunned! Love the butter creaminess with the slightly toasted flavour. Simple but delightful.
Moving on to the soup time. It was absolutely pleasant to have a bowl of hot soup during this cold weather. Soup was served in a big deep bowl, a bit hard to spoon. Soup was incredibly earthy. Velvety from the blended chickpea and mushrooms while still creamy with a strong umami flavour. Love they kept some mushrooms and chickpea pieces for nibbling. Absolutely a hearty pick under the cold weather.
After a while, mains served. Mezze maniche pasta was served cleanly in a cute bowl. Generous sausage ragouts gave such a good nibbles, but also adding a strong savouriness to the dish. With the tanginess from the marinara, it was well balanced with flavours. Mezze maniche well coated with all the ragu sauce while part of the sausage meat was stuffed inside the mezze manjche. Love their pasta choice for an elevated bite experience.
Braised beef cheek was served on top of the mashed potatoes and sautéed baby spinach. Baby spinach was well cooked, simply seasoned with salt and black pepper. Mashed potatoes was very smooth, with no lumps and not fatty base. Slight herbed but still tasted the potato flavour. Braised beef cheek was cooked so well that meat was easily fork apart. Soft and juicy, almost melt in my mouth. Pretty strong beef flavour that may not suitable for non meat lover. Gravy was served just the right amount, lightly drizzled on top of the dish. Didnt have a strong flavour which kept the protein as a star. More on a garnish side.
Last but not least, the pear and chocolate cake. It was well executed. A soft whipped cream and some berries were served on side with light dusting of powdered sugar. Normally, using pear as a dessert main ingredient is a risky move because its own unique taste easily overpowers the dish ending up taste like chemical. Nevertheless, this dish was absolutely an opposite. Chocolate part was more like a brownie texture while pear slices were covered well with the batter. Every bite contains both chocolate cake and pear. Pear gave a light sweetness while didnt over cooked with its own soft texture. It was a dark chocolate cake which was a well use if high quality of cocoa. Personally always love using mint as garnish as it's paired well with dark chocolate. Love the edge which tasted like a dense chocolate shortbread. Whole dessert was delicious. Perfect end of this meal.
This restaurant absolutely surprised me that they didn't just master the pasta but protein and dessert. Every dish was delicious and it was an unexpectedly satiating lunch. I will for sure come back for their dinner menu. Well done.
