Three of us came here after hiking from the Shing Mun Reservoir to Shatin via Needle Hill. We were starving! Most of Shatin was under compulsory testing order with the testing tents right outside the New Town Plaza. This didn’t stop our hunger! We were seated in the couches outside the front of the restaurant away from other diners which was quite good. We ordered the fish and chips 🤭, classic English breakfast and the premium beef burger. These dishes were all rated as the chef’s recommendations. All meals included a drink, but two of us decided to upgrade our regular coffee to a latte for $10 extra dollars.
The food came pretty quickly within 10 mins. The fish and chips was a good sized portion and the batter was crispy and golden brown. The fish which I’m guessing was cod, was tender and moist. This was the best dish of the three. The classic english breakfast was normal and nothing special, it was easy to share, although the presentation of the slice of toast was sad as it wasn’t toasted to a golden brown color and instead looked as though a slice of raw bread was thrown on top of the dish.
The premium beef burger 🍔was probably the worst dish. First of all what Burger doesn’t come with chips? It was a just a burger put on a plate, my friend pointed out the menu said +$20 for fries, hell
if it was more clear I would have paid it! The beef patty was dry, hard and it felt like I was chewing on card board. Very disappointing burger especially after a 3 hour hike!
Finally the upgraded coffee to a latte from the regular hot coffee was a joke. I was expecting a cafe quality latte, but what I got seemed to be regular coffee with milk form thrown on top made by a coffee machine 🤦♂️ This was probably even worst than the burger.
Overall ok, comfortable seating, well ventilated 💪and food was ok but the chef lacked any care cooking it. The best thing was the restaurant let us sit there for a few hours after our meal catching up on gossip! Maybe during a pandemic 😷 not many people around.
