Sham Shui Po's Dragon Center food court ... so many stalls. So many choices. And SO SO cheap! If you are looking for cheap eats, it's here all one floor of the mall. But perhaps due to extreme competition, some shops open and close at a rapid rate. I always seem to find something new whenever I'm here.On this day, I discovered 水门泰式海南鸡饭专门店 (there is no English name). On this day, I discovered 水门泰式海南鸡饭专门店 (there is no English name). Like all the other stalls in this food court, it's super tiny with one tiny kitchen in the back.
Menu is in Chinese only. There is no 10% service charge as it is a food court. You pay cash only and wait for them to call you for pick up. But what they serve is Hainan chicken sets. They also have something called a Hainan chicken roll (which I will try next time).
I ordered the Hainan chicken rice set ($30) with an upgrade of $5 for a chicken thigh. While waiting for my order, the staff was super friendly and gave me some coconut candies. These were soft and had a slight taste of pandan and coconut.
When my order was ready, the staff was nice to bring it to me when I got up to get it. I guess they were not too busy. The set included a bowl of rice with chicken on top of it and soup.
The soup was clear and packed with chicken flavor. Didn't really taste too much MSG.
It came with a dipping sauce that was amazing. Rich with so many different spices. There was a tiny bit of spiciness but not too much. Just enough to give it a kick.
The rice was placed in a cardboard bowl with chicken on top and four slices of cucumber. The cucumber was very crispy and fresh.
The chicken was moist and tender. Not too fat and seasoned well. I wish there was more of it!
The rice was flavored well with the flavor of chicken oil but it wasn't dripping in fat. There was also a lot of rice. It was packed tightly.
I added $8 for a Thai lime soda. This was amazing good deal as they use actual Thai soda water. The glass was half full with a salty lime syrup and slices of salty lime. Probably one of the best Thai lime sodas around!
A great full meal for under $50! The food was delicious! Portions were good. Service was friendly! I will be back! And I'll try the Hainan chicken roll. I wonder what that is?
