I had heard about this place many times as my wife and friends have all come here before on quite a few occasions. Finally - made it here for a dinner!
Despite the lack of space, a common challenge in HK, this place gives off a nice ambience. We sat kind of 'in the back' by the window, which made it a bit more breathable, being that tables are pretty much spaced tight next to each other.
Dinner menu is generally a set meal where you can choose a 3 or 4 course. We both did the 3 course. Service is very good, as the server was very friendly and enthusiastic. Sometimes a bit over the top in his explanation of the foods, but still - it's good to see happy enthusiasm. We also bought our own wine, and no corkage for simple wine, so always a plus! they helped us chill it and served it later.
First came the bread - and it was GOOD! one was more a plain loaf slice,, and this other was a spiced cheesey bread. both types came hot/warm and was EXCELLENT! even though I knew i ordered a lot, we both ate all the breads and asked for more of the cheese one. EXCELLENT way to start a meal!
Second up came the appetizer. I ordered the melted raclette cheese with iberico ham. This is a very simple dish, but full of taste as the cheese n ham was good quality. Some hot bread in the mix perfected the deal!
Main dish was up and I had the US Prime Steak with black pepper sauce and baked potato slices. I ordered it med rare and it came out perfect - pink and juicy. This is not easy given the thick cut and the fact it came out hot. The taste was fantastic and reminded me of steaks back home in the US!
For dessert I got the Baileys soufflé. Now I don't know soufflés well, but this came out hot fluffy and very tasty. The added birthday wishes was a nice touch (thanks to the wife!). I liked that it wasn't too sweet - and if you wanted that you could have smothered in the chocolate sauce that was given aside.
Not pictured is my wife's meal. She had the seared fois gras to start and that was awesome (better than my starter!). The server mentioned that off-the-menu they had lobster for mains, at no extra charge he said this was grilled or baked with cheese, and suggested she try half/half to try both. Now I don't do shellfish, so I take my wife's word that it was very good! I certainly looked good! Her mango mille fuelle dessert was also good, although nothing too special.
Overall a great experience and meal! I knock down some points for the space as it's cramped and you can really hear all your neighbor's conversations! Price is a bit on the high side as you would expect that little bit more for the price (I had heard prices rose quite dramatically over the past year or two); however, given the special occasion, you just gotta roll with it!!!
