My husband had tried to suprised me on my birthday. He read a few magazines, did some serious surfing online. He came across Madison's and thought it looks pretty good. I don't blame him. The food pictures on their website are quite appealling. Don't be fooled though. The food there is nothing like the pictures.Here's what we ordered:Starter: Pan-seared Duck Foie Gras with Lavender and Green Apple Salad, Caramel Sauce ($128) Chicken Consomme Garnished with Poached Quail Egg, Asparagus and Truffl

with Lavender and Green Apple Salad, Caramel Sauce ($128)
Chicken Consomme Garnished with Poached Quail Egg, Asparagus and Truffle ($78)
Main:
Roasted Rack of Lamb with Ciabatta Herb Crust
and Mustard Jus, with Bayaldi Vegetables and Fondant Potatoes ($258)
Grilled or Pan-fried Dover Sole
served with Baby Vegetables and Boiled Potatoes, Beurre Blanc Sauce ($280)
Food plus wine came to $902
I can usually tell if the restaurant is good by tasting their bread. Their bread was not up to my standards. I knew it was going to be a disaster.
Chichen soup was disappointing. Quail egg was microwaved and not poached. Campbell soup is of much better taste.
Foie Gra was okay but there was only one tiny piece. There was next to no presentation.
Roasted Rack of Lamb was good. But the roasted vegies that came with it were not. Roasted potatoes were a bit hard.
Dover sole was not up to stardard. For $280, I expected better. There were 4 tiny pieces. It felt like I was eating cardboard. There were a few pieces of baby vegies and 2 boiled potatoes. I can't comment on the taste as there wasn't much taste.
They do have good house wine. Happy hour rate $38 each.
I am no food critic but I thought I might warn others who are thinking of going to Madison's for any special occassion. Do think twice!
