It's never easy to eat a decent meal at IFC without burning a hole in your pocket. Of course there are joints that give you (more) reasonably priced options, but that's just a bit far from imaginative. What's better than having your lunch with a panoramic seaview at a fraction of the price of the classy restaurants upstairs?

I was first greeted by the wine cabinet at the entrance; well I still gotta work in the afternoon so nothing hard for me right now. Then came the myriad of breads and sandwiches. Hot meals were also available, but I thought it would be a big mistake if I didn't eat any bread here, judging from my previous experiences with this chain. So I picked a Grilled Vegetable Sandwich ($42), and a Regular Coffee ($24) to wash down my sandwich.

Frankly speaking, Simplylife Bread & Wine is just a more upscale version of its previous existence, Canteen. You're still given that school cafeteria plastic tray with you food, and then get your coffee at the bar. Not very nice. Only that you don't get wine or beer at school!

And there I was, canteen-style harbour view dining. How cool. What more can you ask for? Better weather I guess (see picture). My nearly foot-long sandwich of crispy toasted panini was filled with grilled peppers, mushrooms and zucchini, and fresh baby spinach leaves. It was not overly oily (in fact it was a bit on the dry side due to the bread) but was a refreshing choice for a light lunch. My coffee was served in the beautiful signature Simplylife floral cup. I had it black and that was pretty avarage - I hope they're not using the Starbucks beans next door!

It you treat it as a fast food shop, Simplylife Bread & Wine does offer a good range of drinks, especially some exotic beers. Not some place I'll come often though.
