The maritime theme could have been cheesy (not that I have anything against cheese, which the menu features plenty of) but the blue and white decor and little lighthouse salt and pepper shakers come off quite charming, as is the French host.

The restaurant is spacious and candle-lit at dinner time, hosting one large group and a mix of couples and single diners.

Offerings revolve around savoury buckwheat galettes (good for the gluten-intolerant) and sweet crêpes, along with other Breton favourites such as mussels and butter cake. With one of Brittany's most famous exports being salt, I am delighted to hear that La Creperie make their own salted butter caramel and am already planning on dessert.

Dry cider comes served the traditional way, in a bowl; it's complex and refreshing but I feel for HK$45 I should get more.

Choosing a galette is difficult as there are dozens of delicious combinations; I settle on two kinds of goats cheese with walnuts and salad. The disc of goats cheese on top has been softened close to melting point, with a wonderful nutty flavour. Inside the galette, the other goats cheese is paler and sweeter, making for an awesome contrast of smooth cheese and crunchy walnuts. I suppose some people would call the galette large but it's light to eat. The galette is only just warm when it arrives and cools down very quickly - I'd have liked it a bit hotter.

Meanwhile, the wait staff wander around the floor a bit conspicuously and seem to hover too closely, but this is a diner who likes to be left alone; at least they are attentive.

Dessert is as sexy as it gets: warm, tender apple pieces folded away, with lashings of salted butter caramel sauce. Even better, my waiter brings me a complimentary shot of house-made vanilla ginger rum. It's superb.
