I got together with a bunch of five girlfriends for Sunday brunch to celebrate my birthday. What is with girls and their love for brunch? The choice of brunch was Popsy Modern Kitchen. Why? Located in The Wellington, a new building that is just a quick walk from Sheung Wan MTR station, the layout is breath taking. Spacious seating with huge windows to let in natural light. Pastels and prettiness. It felt like I had walked into a FrancFranc showroom. I love FrancFranc. I loved this place's decoration.
There is a pretty wall with flowers on one end.
Various artworks found on the walls. These apparently change every so often and they list this one their website so if you are an art fanatic and love to eat, like me, this is basically a best of both worlds.
We were given the brunch menu. Menu in English only. Cost of brunch is $388 and does not include a drink. Although they are half price during brunch session. Brunch does include a main and buffet of appetizers and desserts. Soup of the day can be added for $48. As we had never been here before, we decided to order all the different mains and have a taste of each.
The buffet section was fairly decent and all items labelled in English. There were various types of bread, salad, cold cuts, cheese and dessert. For a small place, it was had a good variety of everything. I took photos of the buffet table because geez...so colorful and beautiful. It seemed they put a lot of thought into how everything was laid out.
I think I sampled everything. It was really pretty. I loved the look of the pasta salad as it was placed on a shell with a cute mini umbrella. Break my heart! Everything was so pretty and dainty, my heart cried with glee for I love everything in miniature. Friends who know me, know that every time I go to buffet, I just take everything in minature bowls and spoons and skip everything else. It also tasted as good as it looked. Notable mention is the deviled egg. They also had fresh blackberries and raspberries! Girl food!LOVE!
I saw something interesting on the drinks menu. A DIY drink called Turquoise Ray. It's basically a gin and tonic laced with guava juice and topped with a layer of egg white foam. As I have low alcohol tolerance, I ordered a mocktail version. The following items were placed in front of me.A drink.
A plate containing a card, blue colored latex glove and two containers of fruit flavored color spray. Red was rose and blue was peach.
Instructions were given to use the sprays to create your own design. The card can be used as a guide.

Tastewise? As much as it was fun, it was so sweet, I needed water. It was like drinking sugar. Maybe I should have ordered the boozy version to cut down on the sugar?Mains finally arrived! We each sampled a little of everything.
Seashore. This was seared scallops with a sundried tomato orzo pasta. I love orzo. It looks like rice but has that nice al dente chewiness that is found in pasta. The orzo was flavored with a delicate sundried tomato sauce. The scallops were cooked perfectly. There was a bit of pesto foam on top.
Fish Aquarium. Sea bass with mushroom and cous cous with a lemon butter sauce. I love the word cous cous and this was a nice accompaniment to the sea bass as this is a rich fish. Cous cous isn't rich and this balanced it out. The sea bass was cooked well with a crispy skin.
Mighty Meat. The omelette contained parma ham, mushrooms and parmesan cheese. The omelette was ok. Nothing exciting about it. Just standard brunch fair. It was served with herbed potatoes.
Weekend Roast. A roast spring chicken with truffle mashed potato, baby onions and peas and a chicken gravy jus. Now, this was the winner. The spring chicken was cooked perfectly. Moist and tender, it was seasoned perfectly. The gravy was rich and decadent. The mashed potatoes were fluffy and smooth, rich in the taste of buttter.
Popsy Egg Benedict. The poached eggs were laid on top of smoked salmon and spinach and layered with a hollandaise sauce. This also didn't really pop for me. Just standard brunch fair. Hollandaise was creamy but could have used a touch more lemon.
Poached egg was perfect by the way. Yolk flowed out like lava.
Pumpkin Cart. A cute name for this dish that is basically pumpkin risotto with brussel sprouts, pine nuts and sprinkled with parmesan. The risotto was creamy and rich with a strong pumpkin flavor. Brussel sprouts were cooked nice and soft. How I like them.
Strawberry Banana Smoothie ($58). My original drink finished, I ordered smoothie. This was thick and creamy. The taste of strawberries was intense and the addition of banana didn't over power it.
Delving in dessert territory from the buffet table. I samped a few of ... oh who am I kidding? I basically ate everything. All were delicate and lovely. My favorite being the chocolate tart as it was rich and decadent.
The little cone filled with a lemony mousse was also lovely. I liked it.
This is a white chocolate dipped marshmallow with a goldfish cracker on a stick. It was so pretty. But SO sweet. I think I had cavities after popping this in my mouth. But it was super cute.
Great birthday brunch in a lovely setting. Food was divine. Service was effecient and polite. I had a really relaxing afternoon. I saw they have lunch sets and would most likely return to try it out.
