Riva is the italian word for shore, shoreline. The RIVA is located on the 27 th floor of Park Lane Hotel, by the northern shoreline of Hong Kong Island, opposite to the east TST and Hung Hom area.RIVA used to serve semi-buffet on Sundays, with a great selection of quality main course The place was nice and relaxing, with a beautiful view of the eastern side of the Victoria Harbour. And the food was of a much higher quality than that in the Cafe One on the first floor.
We arrived at 12:15 pm this Sunday and realized that they were serving full buffet, instead of semi on the day. Unlike the relaxing atmosphere in previous visits, this time, there was already a long queue up at the buffet counter.
The buffet included a complimentary drink. As an option, for an additional $68, you can have an unlimited supply of soft drinks; and for $98, you get an unlimited supply of wine. After around 20 minutes or so, the long queue started to retreat, and we took our turn.
There was a great variety of food: Seafood counter offered crayfish, alaska crab legs, mussels, shrimps. Of course, there's also sashimi. The wagon station offered roast beef, yorkshire pudding and ham steak.
Asian food like laksa, curry and naan, dim sum were also on the counter. Lots of choices, but the quality was not as good as in our previous visits. In fact, the food was more like those offered at the Cafe One downstairs.
For dessert, They had a chocolate fountain, chestnut cakes, cheese cakes, choco tarts and best of all HD ice-cream. Overall the service was ok except that they forgot about my coffee and I had to chase for a couple of times before they finally got it. But the coffee was great and deserved the wait
We spent some time in the outdoor terrace which, in good weather, should offer refreshing air and a great sea view. In our case, the place was still good but the weather was a bit hazy. We also met veteran actor King Sir chit-chatting with his group in the terrace. Still a nice environment, but was a bit crowded this day; lots of food, but quality could be better; at $388 + 10% for lunch, I think the price is a bit steep. That said, I notice that they offer credit card promotions. With a reduced price, for the nice view and the great variety of food, will still give it an encore
