Always wanted to try this place when it first opened in Tsim Sha Tsui but there was always such a huge queue and even longer waiting list for reservations, we pretty much gave up. Then they expanded with more branches in Causeway Bay, Tsuen Wan, Prince Edward, Tin Hau and Mong Kok! I was invited to give their Mong Kok branch a try and I brought along three more friends so we could order more dishes.

BBQ 7080 is a Korean BBQ restaurant that is part of a big restaurant group that brought you other popular Korean themed restaurant concepts such as BBQ Military (Korean BBQ with a military theme) and Norayo K-Cafe. I tried Norayho K-Cafe before and thought it was a cutely themed Korean cafe. BBQ 7080 is similar in that the decor is also themed in a very cute Korean style. The place was fairly spacious with typical chimneys at each table to suck up any smoke from the BBQ area so you clothes don't get smokey and prevent you from smelling like a grease fire. The staff also cook the food for you, so you don't have to worry about under cooking (and getting food poisoning) or over cooking (thus, burning your food). Their menu is in both English, Korean and Chinese with plenty of nice photos of all the food. They also have little country flags to say where the meat comes from. Interesting to know. Staff are both Chinese and Korean.

They had some really cute themed rooms for larger groups. I thought that was SUPER cute.

This was a bit of genius! The chairs had a compartment to put your coats and bags in. Handy and space saving! Especially in this Hong Kong where space is limited.

I noticed they had a special where after 10 PM, you get 20% off. Pretty good deal for those late nighters.

Each table had a jug of Korean tea. It was the basic brown rice tea and nice and cold.

This is the chimney contraption I was talking about earlier. So, you cook the food below and the chimney is movable up and down to suck up smoke. This fascinated me to no end.

Each person was given dipping sauces. Top two were salt, pepper and oil. Bottom left was garlic and chilli. Bottom right was a Korean soybean sauce that I liked a lot. It was sweet with a small touch of spice.

We were also given complimentary appetizers. Left was kimichi daikon which wasn't very spicy but more sour and very crunchy. Right was onions.

Another appetizer was chilled tofu. This I liked, too, as it was  refreshing.

Other appetizers were given. Left was chilled green beans. These weren't spicy and had a nice crunch and sesame oil flavor. Right was kimchi. This wasn't very spicy and well...not very good as kimchi goes.

Yangnyeom Galbi (marinated beef short ribs) ($198). This came with two slices of mushrooms. The beef was nicely marinated and tasted great. Loved this quite a bit.

Dwaejigogi Modum Gui (assorted pork) ($298). We decided on an assortment of pork that included pork belly, pork neck, pork spare ribs and pork jowl. All were not marinated and you really rely on the dipping sauce. The meat was moist. Especiallly the pork belly.

Dwaeji Kkeopdegi (pork rinds) ($78). This was a highly recommended item from a friend who had come here before. Something I had never tried before in any Korean BBQ restaurant. This is really pork rinds and after you grill it, you are given soybean flour to dip it in. I'm unsure if I'd order this again but it was definitely different. Tip is to eat it when it's just finished cooking and when it's hot as it's like eating crunchy jello. After it gets cold or it's been over cooked, it becomes like eating plastic.

Muneo Kkochi (grilled octopus) ($38 for two skewers). This was really good as welll. Lightly marinated, the octopus was soft and not rubbery. Tasted extremely fresh.

Dak Bulgogi (marinated chicken) ($98). Originally wanted grilled chicken skewers but they had run out so we chose this instead. Chicken had a pretty good marinade and was mosty and not dry.

We also ordered a Gul Ssamjang ($38) which was an oyster soybean paste sauce. It came in a small pot and was super salty. Good sauce for dipping our meat in. I neglected to take a photo (well, I did, but I don't know where it went). But it was just a thick hearty stew like sauce.

Haemui Pa Jeon (seafood pancake) ($78). Aside from BBQ items, they have some cooked Korean dishes. We ordered a seafood pancake as oppposed to the kimchi one as I can't really eat spicy food. Though smaller in portion size to other Korean restaurants, it was ok as we had a lot of other BBQ items. The pancake was moist and tasted pretty good. Not too overly floury as well. Lots of onion and seafood in it.

Peach Soju ($178 for 1.3 L). They have two sizes for soju. 1.3 L for $178 and 500 mL for $118. As we had four of us, we chose the larger jug. They came in six flavors (mango, yakult, peach, pineapple, lychee). I chose peach because I love peach anything. This was pretty good. Lots of peach flavor with a small touch of soju. Good for those that can't handle too much alcohol (like me!). We also ordered a lychee one (lost the photo). It had lots of canned lychee but it was also way stronger in alcohol taste as opposed to the peach. I liked the peach more.

After our meal, they gave us gum and breath mints so our breath smelled minty fresh.

Pretty decent food for a fair price. Good for those that need a more mainstream place for Korean BBQ as it's tidy, clean with friendly service. And you don't smell like grease afterwards.
