Wife's birthday, booked Gradini after seeing good reviews on Timeout Magazine. If I remember correctly this is restaurant used to be Frites, a Belgium mussels bar/restaurant I quite enjoy. Gradini is situated in the Pottinger Hotel and the decor is very nice. It's not a big restaurant, tables are cozy but not to the point of being crowded. We were put in the corner table overlooking Queens Road. This is a more traditional Italian restaurant serving more hearty foods. It was white truffle season
I had the seafood soup which was very delicious. recommended. We ordered the beef carpaccio to share. The taste was good, not mind blowing, but good. The dish that I liked a lot was the lobster tagolini. Very tastey dish and one recommended by some reviews I read of this place. I forgot to take a picture since it was very tasty. Highly recommended.
Another dish we ordered was the rack of lamb. The servings were generous as with most of the dishes from this restaurant. However, it was a little well-cooked for our liking. It was still a good dish, however we did order medium-rare and this was more on the medium side.
There truffle butter and sundried tomato paste that came with the bread basket was one of the pleasant surprises of the evening. I found myself going back to the bread basket every now and then and really enjoyed it.
For wine, we ordered a bottle of Italian red, this restaurant only serves Italian wine and price to taste ratio was good. The menu listed it as 2008, but it has since been out of stock we were given 2010 with a 15% discount. This was however after I asked the waiter about the year difference. I appreciate the discount, but they should of told us they were out of stock when presenting us with the wine. Overall the staff was polite and courteous. The service is decent for this price range in restaraunt. It is certainly not one to compete with the more higher-priced or prestigeous fine dining restaurants in town. However, overall the food quality and price makes it a nice choice for those looking for a nice dinner without breaking the bank.
