I'm always wary of celebrity run restaurants as they are usually pretty bad. They lend their name and all is forgotten while they reap in the profits. But Homie Cookies is different. But Homie Cookies is different. Owned by Joyce Cheng, a local actress/singer who's parents are iconic in their own right, she started her own cookie shop. Making soft and moist cookies that are more like what you'd find at Mrs. Fields as opposed to Jenny's Bakery. To me, I prefer this soft moist cookie than the crunchy kind. At $25 a cookie, she started online, then went to various coffee shops selling her cookies. Homie Cookies then went on to small kiosks in shopping malls. But now there is a new stand alone cafe. The name on Openrice is Homie Cookies but it should correctly say "Homie Cookies and some other stuff" because there is other stuff!
This shop not only sells cookies but they also sell cookie base desserts! Well and drinks, too. But it's the cookie based desserts I'm talking about. You can get soft serve and a cookie, chips and soft serve or something called the works which is everything in a soft serve. But I was interested in this: fried cookie dough with soft serve. Deep Fried Cookie Dough with Toasted Marshmallow Soft Serve ($55). You get to choose either Ricky James (double chocolate salted caramel cookie) or Band Camp (s'mores cookie with graham cracker). I chose Band Camp. I suggest you do so, too. It was made to order so I did wait a while for my dessert. Have you ever had deep fried Oreos? This is exactly how good it was. Warm and gooey. The batter wasn't too thick. The cookie dough was melting in chocolate and melted marshmallow. This is why you should get the Band Camp one. Because of the melted marshmallow center. Probably due to the sweetness of the cookie, I really couldn't taste the toasted marshmallow flavor of the soft serve. But the ice cream was great. Very creamy and thick. Sinfully good. This was heaven on a small paper plate. A bit pricey but definitely worth it. They also offer samples of their cookies, too. A place worth a stop.
