逸东饺子 is a place I had bookmarked for quite some time if I ever went to Tai Po. But Tai Po is a bit far from where I live and thus this place was always a bookmark. Until now! I found out it had opened a branch near me. So, boyfriend and I decided to go there for lunch. And it was busy with a number of people ordering takeaway and people waiting to dine in. I guess it was new in the neighbourhood so people were curious. The inside was cutely designed with their dumplings and other characters like
The Coriander Black Pepper Pork Dumplings had a strong hit of black pepper. It was super powerful and definitely not for the faint at heart. It was mixed with a lot of corinader as well.
The Mala Spicy Three Chili Peppers Pork Dumplings were outstanding. A dumpling even those who can't handle too spicy can eat. It wasn't very spicy but just a nice numbing sensation that wasn't too strong. There were three different colorful peppers added as well, giving it various levels of flavour. The soup was a hot and sour soup that was very spicy indeed with a good punch of sour. Boyfriend wanted pan fried dumplings so we shared Pan Fried Corn and Cheese Pork Dumplings ($46 for 6 pieces). They were beautifully fried. The skin was absolutely crispy without dripping in oil. The filling was really good. Lots of cheese that oozed out. The sweetness of the corn balanced out the saltiness from the cheese. The pork meat was extremely juicy. We've ordered cheese filled dumplings in other places before and was always disappointed. Not here. These were my favorite.
I also found it interesting they provided balsamic vinegar for dipping instead of the usual chinkiang vinegar. I had never thought to try using that instead but in a way .... it works as they are both a type of black vinegar except balsamic is more sweeter. Will definitely be back as I love dumplings and it's fairly close to home.
