I came here for my birthday dinner. Surprisingly, despite its location the restaurant was quite empty on a Friday night. This is usually not a good sign - but my sister was a regular and she highly recommended this restaurant. It was only the two of us - so clearly, we had ordered too much. It had quite an extensive menu and we wanted to try a little bit of everything. The menu covers every Japanese foodie’s need - from tempura to fresh sushi and sashimi platters. Not to mention its choice of skewers!
We decided to order the onsen egg with uni (sea urchin) as our appetizer along with a signature ‘Masu’ salad. The salad had a lot of salmon and the portion was huge! It was one of my favourite dishes for the night. The salad dressing was light and tasty.
As our entree, we decided to share a large sashimi platter. It was really fresh and nicely presented in the bowl. The platter also includes two slices of the toro which is probably the star of the show. The chefs used the heads of the prawns to make us a miso soup. In addition, we had also ordered a tuna sushi special - which features tuna in five ways.
After eating all the sushi and sashimi, I really craved for something that was cooked. So I chose to order a mushroom skewer. It was nicely seasoned but I didn’t think it was particularly memorable - compared to the other dishes!
Overall, it was a good experience - service and food were both great! The lack of customers was probably a good think because the waiters ended up being able to provide better service for us. In terms of the price, it is leaning close to the expensive side. For our meal it cost around $600 - $700 per person. But then again the number of dishes we ordered would have fed three people without any problems. Since then, we have returned back a few times and it’s definitely a restaurant worth trying out!
