after eating at Queen's Cafe the other day, we thought we discovered a rare gem in HK style western food. lo and behold, now we found that Double Star is another gem in that category.small cafe, modern deco, comfy seating. the food is nostalgic HK style western food, brought up to the 21th C.the set lunch choice of baked duck rice 芝士蜜桃汁焗烟鸭胸饭 ($53) had many slices of smoked duck breast smothered in a peach sauce and covered with cheese. there were peach and onion too. the fried rice with egg was

the set lunch choice of baked duck rice 芝士蜜桃汁焗烟鸭胸饭 ($53) had many slices of smoked duck breast smothered in a peach sauce and covered with cheese. there were peach and onion too. the fried rice with egg was underneath. the whole dish was baked to a brown top. unlike the other reviewer, i found the sauce very distinctly tasty, not too sweet nor too fruity. the smoke duck meat was especially tender and flavorful, way surpassed those that i tasted in acclaimed restaurants in san francisco or napa.
the spaghetti with mushroom 火腿黑松露菌忌廉汁扁意粉 ($65) was another finely executed dish. the ham and several kind of mushrooms were mixed in a cream sauce, on top of a plate of al dente spaghetti. all tasted fantastic.
included in the set lunch were: the chicken cream of corn soup had a few pieces of tasty chicken, but the corn and soup flavor was too weak. the coffee was strong and likable.
service was ok during lunch period. the place was not noisy even when crowded.
compared to Queen's Cafe which is more mature in the cooking, Double Star is more into exploratory or practical cooking. here the price is one notch lower, so one should not expect fine dining style western food.
