雪山榴梿配绿茶雪糕I order this practically every time. I like the mixture of flavours of coconut/ vanilla, durian, green tea, strawberries… I remember the first time I saw this on the menu, I had felt skeptical about the pairing of durian and green tea ice-cream. Precisely because I wasn’t sure how well (or badly) the two would go together, I had ordered it. Strangely, the result was pleasing. I order this practically every time. Green tea and durian both (are supposed to) have very strong tastes, and neither overpower the other but in fact make each other all the stronger, as they are so different. The strawberries, similarly, are in an entirely different category of taste, and thus its fruity flavour stands out all the more. The coconut/vanilla soup is just the right level of sweetness and its icy texture is refreshing. I find that the portions of the ingredients in this dessert are all quite adequate. It would be great if they could serve better quality green-tea ice-cream, or perhaps give customers the option of having haagen dazs ice-cream at extra cost.
芒果班戟
Pancake items are made well here, whether it’s mango or durian (haven’t tried banana). The ratio of cream to fruit is almost just right, though different people would of course have different preferences as to the amount of cream that they like. The pancake layer is thin and smooth and has its own, almost fragrant, flavour. However, I find that its softness and chewiness differs from shop to shop. It was unfortunate that the mangoes used on this particular visit was not sweet, and neither was it sour, so it was tasteless and lacked mango-taste altogether.
I feel that this dessert shop is more on the conservative side, with little innovative dessert combinations on offer. Though it does have both Chinese and Western varieties, I wasn’t too impressed with the Chinese dessert of black sesame soup that I ordered last time. Only the durian-green-tea dessert strikes me as a more unique creation at this shop, which is why it's the main reason I go back to this shop.
