This is a small family-run establishment, which bills itself as an Italian restaurant. The menu offers traditional yet unsophisticated Italian fare (ante-pasta, pasta, pizza and entre dishes) as well as other forms of Western food (e.g. steaks, chops, BBQ ribs, etc.). The standard of food is quite tasty (but not always authentic) and decently presented. The standard of food is quite tasty (but not always authentic) and decently presented. Unfortunately, hot dishes are served on cold plates, which can cause the food to cool, congeal and lose flavour/palatability. Most menu items are heavy on carbohydrates and it would be nice if more healthy forms of food could be offered.
The wine selection is resonable for a restaurant of this type and prices are quite competitive when compared to those of other European-type establishments in the area.
The service, although always friendly, is hit and miss. When the restaurant is full, there are insufficient staff to match service demand. Some waiters (many part-time) are inattentive and most have not been trained in how cutlery should be set and how dishes should be served and removed from the table.
The boss is not Italian, as mentioned in earlier reviews on this website. The owners are in fact, a married couple from Nepal. She manages the service in front of house while he is the head chef and runs the kitchen. They are very hard-working, polite, friendly and eager to please. The Italian guy referred to in earlier reviews was a waiter and he was permitted to take his services elseehere!
The decor is simple yet pleasant. The overall ambience is good, with soft lighting and decent music.
The bathrooms are spotlssly clean.
Bellaria is a pleasant, unsophisticated family-run restaurant, which offers reasonable food at decent prices. It is gaining popularity and the establishment is worth seeking out if you reside, work or party in the Wanchai area. It is a great place for holding private parties.
Overall, I recommend this eatery and wish its owners success.
