Huang Ji Huang is a huge brand in China, with several branches all over China. They are known for their hotpot and service. I have tried few times in China and kept wondering when will Hong Kong opened a branch here. When I knew that they opened a branch in Tsim Sha Tsui, I immediately told my wife about it. When I knew that they opened a branch in Tsim Sha Tsui, I immediately told my wife about it. It was located at Carnarvon Road, near to K-11.
They have few choices for hotpot selection, We can choose between fish, chicken, seafood, beef or DIY etc. For their sauces, there were up to 5 choices to choose, from non-spicy to spicy. Besides that, we can order ala carte menu as well. I was quite surprised to see Hui Lau Shan menu here. It seemed that they collaborated with Hui Lau Shan to sell their desserts in-house. We need to pay for welcome snack and water as well.
The welcome snack is charcoal peanut. It was less salty than usual and was more crispy.
Watermelon juice - It was served in a tall jug, able to fill around 4 glasses. I was very surprised that their watermelon juice can be that juicy, from a restaurant and not from a drink stall. It was blended with some ice and was shaved till snow-like. It was very sweet and served icy cold.
Signature chicken pot - All the ingredients were stacked in this red colour pot. When the waiter first removed the cover, he took out a serving of butter and placed it on the empty hotpot. Next, he placed all the vegetables into the hotpot, thereafter placing all the chicken meat on top of it. HE added some seasoning into it as well, and let it steamed for around 15 to 20 min. After that, he added the special marinated sauce into it and let it steamed for few minutes again.
The chicken was steamed till soft and smooth, and extremely flavourful. The sauce caused me to be thirsty though. thus i need to keep drinking water. Even those sweet potato and carrot were cooked till soft as well.
Hand made cheesy beef ball - The size of the beef ball was considered big and round, thus it took quite awhile for it to be cooked. After we have finished the chicken hotpot, the staff began adding soup into the pot so that we can continue to eat. The beef ball was tender and juicy, with the cheese bursting out in my mouth.
Cabbage was cooked till soft and juicy, absorbing the essence of the soup base and sauce.
Hand made prawn paste - It was served in a big round paste and we can use spoon to cut into several pieces. Prawn was fresh and sweet as well.
Sliced eel - It was tender and chewy, with a tinge of freshness in it. There were some brittle bones in it that could be eaten together.
Mango romance - It came in 3 separate bowls. Mango was sweet, but the chewy ball was slightly hard. Mango ice cream has strong mango taste, and the jelly beneath was chewy. Mango mochi was chewy and sweet as well.
