I arranged to meet my ex colleague in Hang Hau for a catch up at Lardos Steak House. It was my first time to the area and the whole journey from HK island felt like an outing. So I was happy to be 20 minutes early for our lunch. I checked at Lardos and she hadn't made a reservation. There was no one there for lunch that Saturday, so I said I would wait for her outside. But after 40 minutes of wait, I panicked and realised I didn't have her new mobile number. I didn't want to be the only customer
I came across a casual Thai restaurant with an outside and inside area, so I sat at a table inside and ordered the first thing on the menu- pork knuckle rice set. No sooner had the rice and drink arrived, I got a phone call from my friend. She was late and arrived at the steak house, so she made her way over to the Thai restaurant. She told me the Thai restaurant was also a famous and popular place and that I must try the curry crab. To cut a long story short, we ended up eating :
The pork knuckle rice. The knuckle was boneless and the meat was tender and soft. The combination of the meat and the tasty skin was great and the light sauce complimented the dish well. Just as well we were sharing as it was too big a portion for one. But the two of us couldn't finish it.
We ordered morning glory with shrimp paste (less oil). These were tasty but nothing special
The curry crab was the star of the show. The curry was mild but rich and creamy. There were lots of herbs and spices and the crab was firm with lots of hard and soft roe. The 2 of us nearly finished the crab
We ordered parathas to go with the crab. These were the frozen varieties from the supermarket and so no comment. I guess I didn't expect them to make fresh ones as parathas are not Thai breads.
So we had a good time catching up and I tried one of the famous restaurants of Hang Hau. I am not sure when I will have another reason to be back at the village.
