It's hard to find reasonably priced, decent fish and chips in Hong Kong since the demise of the Chippy and I had hoped Seasalt would be the answer. Alas...I should have read some of the other reviews before walking for 20 minutes up from Central.
While the ordering all went as it should, the wait time quite resonable and the presentation more than adequate, the seafood was flavourless. The calamari had only a little bit more flavour than the fish, but the cod had absolutely no flavour at all. If it weren't for the lemon, tartare sauce and my hunger built up from the walk, I don't think I would have finished it.
The calamari was average, but slightly over-cooked for my liking - a chef should know that calamari goes in the fryer for no more than 10 seconds. Tops.
The batters for both the cod and the calamari were good. But good batter is not the only thing that makes good fried fish or calamari.
I am of the opinion that the seafood had been previously frozen.
The chips were nice...
I won't be returning or recommending.
And the search for the elusive fish and chips continues.
