Complimentary bread: The bread size was quite small, I would say it is one piece of bread but cut into 4 equal piece to share between two person. Not very generous. But the olive oil and vinegar was extremely generous in a big plate which I found very strange. The bread was not warm nor very soft. I would say average. But because they served us olive oil and vinegar with bread INSTEAD of butter I was expecting authentic italian dishes

Caeser Salad: I have mixed feelings on this dish. It was served in a very nice bowl bit similar to Applegreen. The leaves looked fresh with breadcrumbs and burnt bacon bits on top. You could clearly see lots if white dressing with it. It did not taste much of caeser salad instead th taste was very wierd. T tasted rather fishy. At first I thought t must be the dressing but some parts f the salad tasted normal. We realizedonly the top of the salad tasted quite fishy whereas the bottom was normal. But this was not a dish I would say it is above average or wirth for me to recommend as a salad should not be so hard to make it taste good.

Spaghetti Carbonara: Carbonara came in a fairly generous portion. First thing you would notice would be the amount of bacon on top of the pasta and you can clearly see the thick creamy carbonara sauce. As you dig in you would realize it is so hotin the centre of the Soaghetti. Which makes you wonder if the pasta has been reheated or made warn so the centre of the asta is alt hotter than the outsude. You might hav been fooled by the creamy sauce but it does not taste as creamy as it looks. The texture is creamy but lack of creamy cheesy taste. Could hardly tastevthat egg cheese taste that carbonara taste you usually get. Instead it feels cream but not creamy. It was salty and even more salty with the crisoy bacon.

Baked penne with tuna and smoked salmon in creamy sauce: this was in a smaller plate than the Carbonara but came at same time. You could see a generous portion of melted cheese on top. The sauce was creamy but tasted same astge Carbonara but much saltier due to the smoked salmon. There were more smoked salmin than tuna. There was actually too much smoked salmon. There are also sweetcorbs in the pasta which I like and there was mushrooms but probably two little slices of mushroom. The funny thing s there was a couple slices of chinese mushroom. I have never known italian cuisine uses chinese mushroom in their pasta dish. This is a big no no to anyone coming to Oliver to eat.

Broccolli / Califlower cream soup: This was part f the upgraded meal. For any main dish you order you could upgrade to a meak for just 20 dollar and you would get a soup and a drink. We chose a cream soup which happens to be Broccoli or califlower soup. This soup was the best dish out of all we have ordered. It was rich and creamy with buttery taste. The soup was smooth but was too creamy that would make you full up. You could taste bits of califlower which was so good.

Atmosphere: While waiting outside I was peeking inside and realized the restaurant was very big. With two oarts. There are lots of seatings from big to small tables for two. The lights are dim, with dark colours interior. Sets a romantic setting. We were seated on a four person table but I have noticed there are couples or people who came in two were not as lucky as us, they were seated on table for two BUT the tables were closely next to the table next to them. I would recommend not to come so early like peak dinner time.

Conclusion: i have heard many great things and recommendation by friends about Oliver. I was planning to queue up at the Japanese restaurant next to Oliver but the queue was much shorter than the Japanese place so decided to come Oliver instead. We only waited fir 15-20 mins. Were seated and given our complimentary water an bread. They refill our water a few times. Like I have mentioned above, they served olive oil and vinegar with bread instead of butter. Which is the healthy and more authentic choice which most European countries do. So I expected the food to be very authentic. Both the salad and the pasta was disappointing, It was not authentic at all. Pasta was salthy and not creamy. I would say JUST average and nothing really tells me to cme back apart from the soup. The waiter who served us was not rude but could have smiled more and speak more clearly. We have to guess what he was saying half the time.

I ordered Caeser salad with duck breast at first but when the salad arrived it was without the duck breast. I was upset as the waiter took wrong order but dud not complain. In the ebd we ordered 'iced cappucino' which tge SAME waiter asked ' hot or ice?'. Well I did order Iced coffee. Hmmmm

The bill came to approx 220 hk dollars wgich isn't too expensive but fir the service or the food qlity it isn't worth it. But i do like their concept and the atmosphere. Thyey just need to improve on training up their staffs and improve their food. Would I return? Probably not, especially the Yuen long branch
