Once again, it was the last day of Year 2016 and we have decided to contribute back to the society in one way or the others. Some of my friends have visited this place and have some wonderful experience, thus we decided to go too. Friends Italian restaurant was located conveniently opposite Hung Hom MTR, by just walking across the overhead bridge. To make it simple, this restaurant collaborates with organization hiring non-privileged person, so that they were able to integrate into the society.
They only serve set lunch during noon from 12pm onwards. The price ranges from $56 to $138. The set lunch consists of soup, main course and a drink.
On every customer’s table, there will be a piece of paper in front. As one says, a picture paints a thousand words. Now I realize it’s true. There were pictures and words to illustrate the meaning of most essential used words so that the waiters were able to understand us. There are also mini signboards for us to raise to inform waiters if we need to order something or foot bill.
Garden salad – It consists of cherry tomatoes, cucumber, corns and vegetables. Even though it was fresh, but it was not juicy enough. Salad dressing was not enough, thus when eaten it was quite dry.
Soup – It was a healthy version of soup. It was quite thick and I could really taste most of the ingredients in it. All the ingredients were blended and mixed into a soup.
Grilled chilled US Angus rib eye steak with black pepper gravy – I goes for the jugular, the most expensive item in the menu. The normal price was $198, but I am able to enjoy it for $138. The discounted price was only applicable to the first 12 sets every day. For additional $5, I am able to have rice or pasta, but I still prefer wedges. Portion of it was huge. It came with carrots and cucumber and wedges as well. I order 70% well, retaining slight bit of redness in the meat. The meat was still tender enough and when added with black pepper sauce, the meat was even more flavourful.
Lychee slush – It take quite awhile for the ice to fully melt as the ice was not blended fully. It was sweet and hydrating.
Chocolate sacher cake – It was cut into 3 mini slices. Cocoa was considered strong and the texture of the cake was thick. After finishing this desserts, I was already full to the brim.
