Had a long meeting that overran right until 1:30pm. I was really starving so the decision was to grab something quick in the neighbourhood. Too bad that the nearby Cafe Habitu has closed down due to renovation and according to the signage, it said the re-opening won't come until 2013 (Am I misreading this? a 2-year renovation?). The newly opened "Le Chef" at Metropark Hotel was another intriguing choice but after reading the recent reviews, I wasn't keen to throw money away like that. Instead I
This was not my first time having lunch here and it was normally packed with men and women dressed in nice office suits, ties and skirts. But perhaps it was already quite late into the lunch hours so I was pleasantly surprised to find that the dining room was only half full. I was quickly shown a nice window seat and within 2 minutes, managed to set my sight on what I was going to order.
Porcini Soup
I ended up ordering a set lunch consisting of salad, bread, soup, pasta/main course and drink ($98). The Soup of the Day was porcini soup and it was very average. Nothing to write home about. If I had a blender and some wild porcini, I'd make something of the same caliber, if not better. Fettucchi with beef
I must admit that I have committed the cardinal sin of ordering pasta at a steakhouse. That's a definite no-no but to my own defense, it was a fettucchi with beef !
The beef was very "chewy" and it felt like chewing gum at times. The fettucchi was also a bit overcooked and had this soapy texture to it. The sauce beautifully described on the menu as the "natural juice of the meat" failed miserably as well. It pretty much looked like a muddy pool of chilli and black pepper and it tasted even worse than it looked. Apart from the food itself, I thought the overall service was not bad. The servers were all quite courteous in making sure that we had a good dining experience. They were definitely not to be blamed but the chefs were!
