I have been searching Hong Kong for a few years, trying to find a la mian noodle shop. And I mean freshly pulled in the shop by the master noodle puller. Crystal Jade is ok, but the soups are not great, its expensive and it just doesn't do it for me. And then, walking past some shops in Tuen Mun near the Yan Oi market, what do I spy but a sign for Lanzhou La Mian ( all in Chinese, which I can luckily read) and had to have a try. I am so glad I did! It's a small place, but very clean and neat. It wasn't too busy so I was sat down straight away. I chose the shuijiao la mian ( dumplings with noodle soup) but noted lots of variations to try next time. The noodles were beautifully chewy, just the right texture, the soup was tasty and with a dollop of chili oil suitably spicy and the dumplings were delicious! The chef could be seen pulling the noodles in the kitchen area- the genuine article!
