Red Rice, recently opened in Lai Chi Kok, is a modern and funky take on a traditional Hong Kong diner. It's brightly-lit, with neon accents inside, and was full of families enjoying a fun dinner when we visited on a Sunday evening. The menu is extensive, with clear Japanese and even Indian influences, and we had a selection of different dishes - it's affordable that you can almost treat it like tapas, make a few choices and share it out amongst your table. Our waitress was helpful and fr
Our waitress was helpful and friendly, happy to check the contents of dishes to meet my dietary requirements, and gave us some good recommendations.
We noticed part-way through ordering that they had an add-on set, soup, salad, garlic toast and a standard drink for only $20, which unfortunately meant we ordered too much and had to leave some! We had cheesy Indian bread to start, which was fun and slightly bad-but-good greasy. The side salad was crunchy and fresh, and the garlic toast... was actually a slice of thick white toast with garlic butter, which was a little unusual, but still nice. I had the fried fish omelette rice, which was good, but large enough that I ended up leaving some of the rice and egg. My partner had Hainan chicken with some veg, as well as shrimp cake and wings - all good, but the chicken was a standout.
Overall, a nice place for a meal, lots of choice, friendly staff, very reasonable prices. What's not to like?
