Laksa is one of my favorite Southeast Asian foods. One look at the menu and there was no question that I was going for one of the two laksa offerings. However, at $188 HKD, the lobster laksa is double the price of the seafood laksa ($98 HKD). Screw it, no regrets for me. As expensive as it is, there is actually quite a bit of value in the dish. The serving size is fairly large for Hong Kong (about the size of a regular bowl of pho in Vancouver), and you'll definitely come out satisfied. Yo

You get a whole lobster, albeit a small one, split in half but otherwise unprocessed. You have to break apart the lobster yourself, without tools, which can get a bit messy especially if you're trying to eat with chopsticks at the same time. They also throw in a hard-boiled egg, fishballs, mussels, shrimp, and other laksa staples. The flavor of the soup was as delicious as I remember authentic laksa being, probably due to the heavy use of coconut milk. I'll find myself at Asian Family again in the near future when I'm craving Malaysian/Singaporean food. I wouldn't exactly call it fine dining, but the restaurant seems to be a going for a classy look, judging by their larger dining room and general cleanliness. Thus, it's not a restaurant I'd come to daily, but I'll have to return soon to try their other dishes.
