We had a birthday dinner here last night. Made reservations for 5 the day before, no problems at all.In terms of food, the popcorn chicken tasted like real chicken, dumplings were just the right spicy, both were definitely the highlight. Everything else was decent, with the exception of the cheesecake which was either food turned bad, or it was purposely made to taste very strange. It was explained that this is how it should taste, but 5 people tried it and either spit it out or refused to have
In terms of food, the popcorn chicken tasted like real chicken, dumplings were just the right spicy, both were definitely the highlight. Everything else was decent, with the exception of the cheesecake which was either food turned bad, or it was purposely made to taste very strange. It was explained that this is how it should taste, but 5 people tried it and either spit it out or refused to have another bite, so I'm not sure if that's better or worst. It was replaced, but if the replacement Mango Pudding came with the joking, skepticism between our party of "why don't you try it first?", the confidence is lost, the damage is done.
The servers smiled and were all very polite, but at times lacked a bit of sensitivity. For eg.
1. When asked about the types of gin, the response was he'll get back to us because there were many to choose from. He came back with 1 option. Wouldn't have blamed him at all if he didn't know the type of gin they had, but just because he may be a casual comment, doesn't mean it doesn't go unnoticed especially for people who have an expectation.
2. After waiting 30+min for the dessert, which they did say was going to take 15-20min, we asked about it and was told it required 20min waiting time without even trying to understand how long we've waited.
3. The server chose the "I don't need to write anything down because I'll remember all your orders" approach, he got a side wrong. We did order a lot, so missing just one side may be decent memory-wise, but we're here for the food, not to be impressed by a server's memory. Again, not necessary. Write it down.
A few minor tweaks and this can turn a decent experience to a great experience.
