I opted to try the matcha opera cake, which sounded intriguing. Unfortunately, I found it to be overly sweet, with the white chocolate completely overpowering the matcha flavor. Despite the use of two different matcha powders, the cake lacked the delicate, nuanced matcha taste I was hoping for. I'm not sure why the baker seemed so confident in this particular cake, as the flavors just didn't quite come together.
On a more positive note, I also tried the cake roll, which was much better. It had a nice texture and a more balanced flavor profile. Both cakes were priced in the $60-70 range, which feels a bit steep for the quality.
In addition to the cakes, I also ordered a couple of coffees from the cafe, which were significantly better than the cakes. The cafe always has a great selection of healthy and wholesome menu options, so I may opt for those next time, rather than the limited-time cakes.
Overall, I was a bit disappointed with the cakes, but the cafe itself remains a solid option for a quality coffee and healthy meal. I'd be curious to try the baker's offerings again in the future, but I hope she revisits the recipes and finds a way to let the key flavors shine through more clearly.
