Being french, people assume I always eat cheese and bread. Truth is: I don't like cheese and am not excessively fond of bread either. But I do have one very french characteristic: I like desserts. So, here we have a croissant, a chicken fougasse and a pistachio raspberry financier.

The fougasse is basically a big slice of bread with chicken pieces and cheese and olive on the top. It's typically the kind of stuff you can find in any bakery wherever in france. And as in france, it's very average. Because, yes, most of the sandwiches, pizzas or whatever else you can find in bakeries in france to eat for lunch are average and overpriced. And the fougasse of Kayser is (unfortunately) no different. The bread is chewy, the taste is bland and it's absolutely not fresh. Authentic. But not the kind of authenticity I miss...

So, forget all their salty offerings and go for pastries. Because, on that side, Kayser do deliver. Their financiers are all great, rich and deliciously melting in the mouth. One of their uncredited treasure is also their pain au chocolat aux amandes (chocolate almond croissant). Damn, this thing is just too good to be true! Some people complain the HK version is too mushy compared to the Paris version, which is true. But, I actually prefer the HK one. Go figure.

So, Kayser is a great place to get your bread and good pastries, whichever branch you choose. But no need to go there for anything else.
