In light of the pleasant experience in Shatin, K and I decided to explore more good restaurants in the New Territories. Our next station was Tai Po. In my mind, good Italian restaurants could only be found in various big shopping malls in the urban area. My prejudice on location led to missing a few good ones in the less popular areas. Environment:
Its interior design is very similar to Amaroni's. I wonder if it is the standard decoration for an Italian restaurant. The disappointing thing is that there's too much noise. The noise was comparable to a Chinese restaurant. So you shouldn't expect that you can have private chat with your dining partners.
Taste:
K and I ordered two dishes only: baby lamb's rack and pepperoni pizza. For those who like mutton, you won't be disappointed by the baby lamb's rack. When you chewed the flesh, the taste of mutton slowly filled up your mouth. The side dish was not bad too. The lamb's rack came with potato cubes. The cubes had soaked with the juice from the rack as well as the sauce. Yummy!! Cheese is the soul of pizza. The pepperoni pizza won my applause as the cheese had a slight but distinguishable smell of milk. So special for me to leave an unforgettable memory on my tongue. (later that night i looked up the gourmet site and found out that this restaurant was quite famous in its pizza in Tai Po). I suggested that you should go there with a large bunch of people so that you can enjoy various kinds of pizza. However, Oliva lost quite a lot of marks in its desserts. We ordered mille-feuille and creme brulee. My thumb down for the multi-baking sheets of m-f. The baking sheets had not been raised up completely when baked to give a crispy crust. For creme brulee, they did not burn the top sugar sheet with a "fire-gun". They burnt liquor on top of sugar layer. Hence, a trace amount of liquor was left on the sugar layer due to incomplete burning. That little alcholic taste completely ruined the whole dessert.
Service:
The attendant was helpful. He reminded us that we needed not order a full table-sized pizza as it would be too much for two of us. He suggested us to have a half size with 70% of the whole table-sized pizza. We didn't mind to pay a little bit more for half size as we were given very clear explanation.
Price:
We ended up with around $400. A reasonable price.
Cleanliness:
Clean and tidy.
