We went to the Hillview Cafe tea buffet on a Sunday afternoon a couple of weeks ago. Before we got there, I hadn't entirely grasped the meaning of the name, but it's actually up quite a steep hill at the Eastern end of Kimberly Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, in the Standford Hillview Hotel. We arrived while they were still setting up the buffet, so we waited for a few minutes in the hotel lobby, along with other hungry buffet-goers. We arrived while they were still setting up the buffet, so we waited for a few minutes in the hotel lobby, along with other hungry buffet-goers. Once we were allowed inside, we were seated by the window and the eating began!
I have slightly specific eating requirements - mostly, vegetarian plus fish - so I missed most of the main courses - I had tuna sandwiches (meat also available), samosas, noodles, sushi and salad, while my partner enjoyed the seafood and meat choices. I do have to compliment the staff, who were helpful, and happy to point out their vegetarian options, and kept the dishes well-stocked. There was a good selection of coffees (latte, cappuccino, etc.) available in a machine, as well as hot tea and chilled apple juice.
The dessert spread is important in a tea buffet, and this one was quite impressive - ice cream, fresh crepes, melon, chocolate fountain, automatic pancake maker, cake and profiteroles, and a good selection of sauces and toppings. I made myself a nut, cream, banana, sprinkles and chocolate spread crepe...
All in all, a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon, and good value as well.
