You have no idea how busy this week I am and it's not because of blogger event, but my personal schedule for those closing restaurant. And on the closing in this week list, there are two from the same dining group, The Press Room and The Pawn (actually, it is just closed temporarily for renovation). The Press Room, the casual French-European restaurant on Hollywood Road, will run till this Friday, thus I have already no chance for their weekend brunch menu, while I still have time for set lunch,
The offered $154 for 2-course and $168 for 3-course from Monday to Friday lunch time (12nn to 3pm). Three starts, five main courses and two desserts (some needs extra payment to be selected) and an extra purchase of one glass of white/red wine. You can have your business lunch with colleagues/ clients/ family members/ friends or even alone like a king/queen in their spacial dining space, and they offers an All-day bar concept next to the entrance. I love the classic decoration and furniture in the restaurant; the fake kerosene lamp, the slightly 'smoked' paintings and especially the dark brown sofa form up a old gentleman style.
For the set lunch, we were not so interested in the starts, and luckily we made the right decision of 2-course which is more than enough for a normal girl's stomach. Warm French bread, the fluffy and warm center part has a high similarity of Italian basil bread, which has a slightly wet and condensed texture, but meanwhile it has the feature of crispy and rough bread 'skin'. Dip black vinegar, or have a little butter without salt, we just finish the whole plate in one second without considering calorie, fat, those kind annoying stuff. The presentation of salad is awesome! Totally a giant volcano of greens but not as raw salad, it is slightly grilled to be stomach-friendly, nose-attractive and still healthy. I and my friend were really in those largely cut mushroom, while it seems too big to have an adverse effect on the softness and taste.
My selection is more tasty by the way, and as my friend's comment, it makes her cross-think to the Chinese cuisine, because the mixture of shredded chicken with leek and the salty tasty sauce. To me, it is less impressive for the less western taste. The Parmesan is nice as looking, and the sauce has a strong cheese taste for sure, while it is just cheese but not unique in flavor. The combination of too much chicken slices and leek does give me illusion that I'm having a dish of fried rice with chicken slices in a Chinese restaurant. Both of us chose brownie for a sweet ending, and they didn't disappoint us. It is a kind of condensed and heavy expression of chocolate brownie with less flour in the processing. With a high level of sweetness, the fresh fruits and light cream as toppings are the best accompanies.
In general, the set lunch doesn't impress me a lot, and compared to the multiple set lunch choices in Central and Soho area, it might be a little over-pricing upon the quality it offers.
