We visited Dim Sum Express on a Saturday night and managed to get a table outside. The first thing to come out was the crispy baked bread with bbq pork. It was basically three small pinapple buns with bbq pork inside. They were delicious. Sweet and moreish. Next came Japanese style beef fried Koreans noodles. These were glass noodles with a nice umami sauce and beef. Again, really tasty and satisfying.
Next came the pork and shrimp siu-mai and the xiao long bao with seasonal crab meat. The siu mai were nice and the xiao long bao were respectable (could have been more soupy). Then the order of glutinous rice balls with pork came out. They were fine - not too exciting; you can get better on the streets of Yau Ma Tei. We also some some great char siu bao that were light and delicious. The last savoury was cheong fun rolled with bbq pork. Opinion was split at this point. I loved the slippery morsels, but my wife was not keen on the texture. We both enjoyed the flavour, it was the just the mouth-feel that divided us.
We finished the meal with ginger pudding. It was a steamed ginger jelly and was lovely. It was sweet, but had plenty of ginger heat and beautifully cleansed the palate.
The service was pretty decent and the tea got refilled. The entire meal came to just over $200, so it did not break the bank. We will definitely be returning for more dim sum in the near future.
